Regular highlight on Kalonology's best skincare ingredients: Kalōnology uses Vitamin E or Tocopherol in our Advanced Skin Recovery

Vitamin E is a collective term for the various forms of Tocopherol which is used mainly in more advanced skin care formulations. We'll refer to the collective term in this article - just to keep it easy reading.

Kalōnology Responsible Skin Care include Vitamin E in our formulations mainly because the skin ageing process presents several constitutional and functional changes in all layers of the skin, including cellular senescence, decreased proliferative capacity, decreased ability to repair cellular DNA, abnormalities related to chromosomes, loss of telomeres, DNA extranuclear related mutations, oxidative stress and genetic mutations - all of which promote the formation of wrinkles, loss of elasticity and dryness of the skin.

Naturally occurring Vitamin E concentrations in the skin is negatively affected with ageing - this is especially the case with photo-ageing.

Over time, the main changes occur within the basal cells, which suffer from dyscrasia, presenting an increase in volume and size, which can be accentuated by the action of UV radiation.

These cells record a reduction in mitotic activity and an increase in the cell cycle and migration time which has the effect of bringing on undesirable changes in the outermost layer of the skin.

Kalōnology use non irritating and non oxidising forms of Tocopherol in adequate volumes to avoid skin irritation but at the same time remaining an effective antioxidant, retaining it's inherent protective activities due to it's lipophilic character and also, effectively avoiding lipid peroxidation by protecting cell membranes from the action of free radicals.

Vitamin E can be difficult to absorb topically, this is why we use derivatives which bypass this difficulty.

Out of interest, Tocopherol's benefits are not diminished when consumed orally. Using a top quality cold pressed extra virgin olive oil in your diet and Kalōnology's Advanced Skin Recovery topically (especially after being overexposed to UVA&B rays or the drying effects of HVAC's or air-conditioners) you're giving your skin it's best chance at recovering with the least possible negative side effects related to premature ageing of the skin.
